About the book

Before he became an instrument of God, Rev. Mr. Brouycie Isley was a shady character who sowed terror and decadence in the streets of Philadelphia. But somewhere along the way he experienced an epiphany that altered the course of his life forever. Now she shares his dramatic transformation in a gripping memoir.

The Deacon's Story , Isley’s memoir, tells the story of an African-American who was born in the South during an era of racial segregation and intense discrimination. In an effort to evade discrimination, hurt, and pain from his native environment, Isley comes to Philadelphia. Homeless and cash-strapped, he finds work through the hoodlums of the streets of the badlands. After a major conversion, he becomes a faithful citizen, married and faithful to his family, and a rock of his church. In this sterling volume, the author attributes his conversion to his encounter with a man who took out of the depths of darkness and whisked into the world of love, peace and joy.

That man is Jesus Christ.

The Deacon's Story is based on the author’s life story, laced with some fictional events, places, and names, incorporated from his childhood memories. Garnished with pictures excavated from the Isley’s rich photo albums, This story is not for self-glory but to give glory to God and, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to overcome all of the obstacles we have to face in our lives.
